Grappling Phase 1
Grappling systems, such as jujitsu and catch wrestling, are fantastic sources of information in training for when an opponent takes you to the ground. But when considering going to the ground while carrying a firearm or blade, the training methods and perspective must change considerably. There are things you can do in a grappling class that will not work when grappling while armed. In fact, even the fundamentals of alignment, movement, and position have to change drastically. It is a common misconception that you can just add your firearm into the grappling environment, and this is not true. Just as when you are on your feet, you need to be ahead in time, in the proper position, and at the appropriate distance to be effective. We have to achieve these same goals on the ground when we are armed. This perspective changes even the basics needed and studied for an “armed” ground fighting encounter. This Phase class teaches the student this essential information and perspective, and it will give you the skills and knowledge needed to move forward in the program to more advanced training.
